Mottarone Parco dei Sassi

I sassi - giova78 I sassi

  • The stones of the park are of a pink and gray granite with large grains, often round and bizarre shapes and are laid down, depending on the sector, on grass or sand. Holes, rounds, cracks, blades, edges, roofs and overhangs are the details of the boulders that in some cases reach over five meters in height.

  • Access: How to get to Mottarone: First option: from the A8 Milano - Laghi motorway (connected to the most important motorway junctions in northern Italy) follow the A26 motorway towards Gravellona Toce and exit at Carpugnino. Continue towards Mottarone for another sixteen kilometers on the provincial road, with a final private stretch for a fee (private road Borromeo - toll 4euro). Second possibility: take the A26 motorway to Gravellona Toce, exit, and reach the villages of Omegna and Orta. Follow the directions for Agrano, Armeno and Mottarone. Third possibility: from Turin follow the A4 and then merge onto the A26 (Voltri - Sempione) in Gravellona Toce die-line and exit at the Borgomanero motorway tollbooth. From here take the state road 229 of the lakes. Go through the village of Gozzano, turn right towards Armeno and follow the frequent signs for Mottarone.
