Adam Ondra, Masoniamoci. Ph. P. Buzzoni from Lario Rock - up-climbing Adam Ondra, Masoniamoci. Ph. P. Buzzoni from Lario Rock

  • The Masone cliff is among the most interesting and complete structures of the whole Lecco area. The wall emerges massively from the woods in the immediate vicinity of Masone's aleggio, it is formed by an impressive overhanging and compact central wall, which rises from two bands of vertical gray plates; the rock is among the most beautiful in the area, both on the slabs and on the overhanging walls. Climbing is definitely very demanding and physical, with technical sequences often difficult and random but of sure satisfaction, especially in lengths. The nailing is excellent on all routes and sometimes requires only a little decision. The discovery of the crag and its exploitation (1996-2000) are due to the local Valsassinesi group: P.Buzzoni, A.Spandri, A.Selva, B.Riva, G.Ganassa, E.Artusi and A.Galeazzi. The favorable exposure to the south and the altitude make the cliff accessible all year round. In winter it is ideal the upper part of the structure is in shade from 15. The rock dries very quickly, and even after long rainy periods the wall is immediately frequented. Given the characteristics of the crag and the length of the routes that are also present in long chains, the 70-meter rope is highly recommended.

  • Access: From Lecco you go up to Valsassina and Barzio, and from here, you can reach (indications) the cable car parking for Piani di Bobbio. From the car park at the cable car square (private az.ITB, paid at weekends and in winter), take the cobbled street towards Piani di Bobbio; after about 20 meters you follow the marked path that comes off on the right and which suffers, 0.10 hours. We take the path that continues with numerous hairpin bends to climb the beautiful beech forest; at the junction, take the right track (signpost), at 0.15 (continue on the left you reach the road to the Piani di Bobbio again, near the "Sciaresa" hut, short access to the Corna di Bobbio). Continue on the path that gaining altitude with numerous hairpin turns to the lawn and the lodge of the Masone, 0.30. From the hut there is the "slavaz" (well for the watering of the cattle) in front and, on the flat, follows a trail that goes back into the woods, and soon reaches the cliff, 0.45 hours from the parking lot. Access often snowy winter season.
